INSTRUCTIONS FOR

STERLING SILVER JEWELLERY

Sterling Silver is an alloy made up of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper or zinc. Sterling silver pieces are stamped with 925 to mark their authenticity.

As Sterling Silver is a softer metal than gold or platinum it means that it is more susceptible to scratches and dents if not cared for appropriately. Sterling Silver is a reactive metal which means that it can react with certain chemicals in the environment that may cause it to tarnish.

Tarnish can also be caused by high acidity in one’s skin and perspiration; therefore should be regularly cleaned.

  • Remove before sleeping or exercising.
  • Remove when bathing or swimming.
  • Avoid contact with cosmetics, hair spray or perfumes. These contain chemicals that can damage your jewellery.
  • Clean your pieces after use with a damp cloth to prevent tarnish.
  • Should you have a high acidity (PH level) in your body, drinking a product like Citro Soda can help to prevent silver jewellery from tarnishing.
  • Regularly clean your silver pieces with jewellery cleaning products (we sell this too).
  • Keep your silver jewellery in your Chic pouch, secure and separate from other hard jewellery, in order to prevent them from getting scratched.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR

GOLD VERMEIL JEWELLERY

Gold vermeil is a term that refers to jewellery with a sterling silver base metal and a layer of gold plating. It is important to realise that as this is an electroplated layer of gold it can lose its colour and scratch should it be worn every single day and not carefully looked after.

  • Remove before sleeping or exercising.
  • Remove when bathing or swimming.
  • Avoid contact with cosmetics, hair spray or perfumes. These contain chemicals that can damage your jewellery.
  • Clean your gold vermeil jewellery when needed using mild soap and warm water. Do not use a brush as it can scratch and harm the gold finish.
  • You can also use a polishing cloth specifically designed for gold jewellery (we sell this too).
  • To prevent tarnish, store your piece of vermeil in a sealed container with silica gel packs and away from other jewellery made from silver or other reactive materials.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR

NATURAL FRESHWATER PEARLS

Freshwater pearls come from oysters that mature in non-saline water (from lakes or ponds, as opposed to saltwater from the sea). Freshwater pearls usually are not as round as saltwater pearls and therefore very unique in shape and size.

Not one pearl is the same as another. Compared to other materials, like gemstones or precious metals, pearls are a soft stone and needs to be carefully looked after.

  • Avoid heat such as hair dryers, irons and curlers.
  • Remove before sleeping or exercising.
  • Remove when bathing or swimming.
  • Avoid contact with cosmetics, hair spray or perfumes. These contain chemicals that can damage your pearls.
  • A pearl’s lustre can be harmed by perspiration, remove before exercising.
  • Don’t clean your pearls with standard, hard jewellery materials and don’t ever soak them in liquid. Instead, wipe them down with a soft, damp cloth if necessary.
  • Keep your pearls in a soft pouch, secure and separate from other hard jewellery, in order to prevent them from getting scratched.
